A tasty modern blueberry cupcake presentation and refreshing stracciatella gelato at Jean Philippe after "strolling through the park" at the Bellagio Atrium! A beautiful sunny Las Vegas day!
I have described both Jean Philippe Patisserie locations on the Las Vegas Strip and what they offer a few times in this food and recipe blog. The thing that I like about the JP pastry shops, is that the pastry and desert offerings always include one of a kind items that are new and exciting! I like to stop by the Jean Philippe Patisserie at Bellagio every time that I go to photograph the seasonal theme atrium displays. Jean Philippe Patisserie is located sinfully close to the Bellagio Atrium! The aroma of freshly baked pastries and desserts is a lure that many cannot resist, especially when they are created by the best pastry chef in the world! I wanted to feature a cupcake from Jean Philippe Patisserie in a blog article, just to please a die hard cupcake fan who happens to be a professional wrestler in Sweden. I expected to see the elegantly decorated rich looking classic cupcakes that I have noticed in the past on display at JP Patisserie. To my surprise, I saw choices of very modern contemporary style cupcakes that resembled plastic toy cupcakes from childhood! The plastic toy presentation style of the cupcakes were so perfectly made, that they did not even look real. I was stunned! I was smiling ear to ear while gawking at the creative simplicity of these very modern looking cupcakes. I completely forgot about the classic elegant cupcakes that I originally wanted to purchase and I said to myself "I need to have one of these plastic looking toy cupcakes!" The way my chef mentality works, is that I instantly try to figure out what techniques and recipes are involved with the making of a new creation that I see. The modern blueberry cupcake at JP Patisserie was a real challenge to figure out. I did figure out the ingredients, the style of cake, the method of making the blueberry filling, the light pastry cream style filling and the airy blueberry topping under the clear see through edible top shell. I will not fill in the specific details of the items in this blueberry cupcake, because part of the entertainment of this cupcake is experiencing it first hand and trying to figure it out on your own! Part of the restaurant business is entertainment and I would hate to spoil the fun by giving the full descriptions away. Initially I thought this cupcake was going to be a molecular gastronomy style experience, but many of the ingredients turned out to be classically prepared perfected recipes. The tricky parts of the presentation for a home cook to figure out are obviously the techniques for making the clear edible top shell and making the thin chocolate applique ring that it seated upon. Since I recently completed a Le Cordon Bleu Baking, Pastry, Chocolate and Candy Arts course of study, I was able to get a grasp on how this cupcake was made. The modern cupcake design is pure genius! All I can say is that after getting over being hung up on trying to figure this cupcake out, I simply dug in and thoroughly enjoyed the textures and flavors of the very nicely crafted modern cupcake! I like blueberry and this cupcake instantly became one of my favorite blueberry desserts of all time. If you are near the Jean Pierre Patisserie at Bellagio in Las Vegas, then you must experience one of the new modern JP cupcakes for yourself! There were four flavors the day that I stopped by. This modern looking cupcake is what good cupcake memories are made of! Jean Philippe Patisserie is well known for high quality Italian gelato that is made daily. The Sweet Chill ice cream shop that is run by the Jean Philippe crew at the Aria Resort is devoted to offering gourmet gelato flavors. Every JP Patisserie offers gelato. Gelato is a first class choice for a refreshing cold sweet treat after enjoying a sightseeing stroll through the summer theme atrium display at Bellagio. Summertime, sweet treats and gelato can make anybody's day better! There are many definitions of the Italian sweet stracciatella gelato flavor. The JP Patisserie interpretation of Italian stracciatella was one of delicate subtle refreshing creamy cool flavors that are perfect for a hot summer day. This was a very nicely crafted refreshing gelato! Of course, I once again highly recommend the Jean Philippe Patisserie at the Bellagio Resort and Casino for visitors of Las Vegas and locals alike! The artistic seasonal displays are free to experience at the Bellagio Atrium and it is like a relaxing colorful walk in a park. To be exact, a colorful summer walk in a park with a great Jean Philippe Patisserie on the other side that offers top of the line sweet treats! Yum! ... Shawna
