A classic noodles with black bean sauce order to-go!
The Elephant BBQ is located at 953 #B27 East Sahara in the Commercial Center shopping complex. The central island of shops in the middle of the huge Commercial Center plaza parking lot is where many Korean restaurants, shops, clubs and the Elephant BBQ are located.  The Elephant BBQ faces east toward the world famous Green Door across the parking lot.     When on the go in Las Vegas, to-go food is a nice option!  Every restaurant that is close to the Las Vegas Strip is well prepared to do to-go food carry out business.  Conventioneers and bar hoppers heading back to their resort hotel rooms often grab a bag of to-go food from a local restaurant to take back with them.       I definitely was in need of carry out food convenience the day that I stopped at the Elephant BBQ for some lunch.  Running all over the Las Vegas valley and meeting with friends on Sahara left me tired and hungry.  If I had sat down in the Elephant BBQ dining room to eat, I probably would have fallen asleep at the table!  An order of to-go food and a quick drive home seemed like a better plan.       The Elephant BBQ has a great reputation for good authentic Korean cuisine.  I had been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time.  All the other Korean restaurants in the neighborhood are very good, and the Elephant BBQ has been open at this location for a long time.  To stay in business with that much competition, the food must be better than just good!     The Elephant BBQ offers Korean style BBQ dining and the food is prepared and cooked on miniature BBQ grills at each table.  Korean BBQ is great for a party of two or four, because you get more food for your money.  The more the merrier!  A single person can do Korean BBQ too.  I personally am attracted to the Korean specialty entrees that are cooked by a Korean chef in the main kitchen.  My favorite Korean entree is jjigae and the Elephant had a nice list of jjigae offerings.     I decided to try an old traditional Korean Jja Jang Myun entree as a to-go order while at the Elephant BBQ.  Jja Jang Myun originated in China, but it became a traditional Korean favorite entree soon after the recipe was created a long time ago.  Jja Jang Myun is Korean style cut chewy noodles with a mild savory thick fermented black soy bean and soy bean paste sauce that is not salty at all.  The color is rich and dark, yet the flavor is mild and satisfying!  Many chefs around the world refer to Jja Jang Myun as the Korean equivalent of a French ragout.       There are about a zillion ways to spell Jja Jang Myun and The Elephant BBQ spelling is a little bit different than my common phonetic spelling.  Even so, it is the same recipe that all Koreans know well.     The Jja Jang Myun at the Elephant BBQ was expertly crafted and the flavor was superb!  This was the very best Jja Jang Myun that I have ever had!  Jja Jang Myun takes time for a chef to make to order, when it is made properly and it is well worth the wait.       When ordering Korean food to-go, the Korean side dishes are not usually an option, but the house always prepares their best kimchi to accompany the to-go order.  The cabbage kimchi and the daikon radish kimchi were of high quality and they gave relief to the high outdoor temperatures of my busy Las Vegas day.  Chile pepper food like kimchi actually gives relief to the heat!     I was very pleased with my to-go order of Jja Jang Myun from the Elephant BBQ!  Sometime soon, I will owe it to myself to go back to the Elephant BBQ for a relaxed sit down meal in their dining room.  English is spoken and the service was polite and friendly at the Elephant BBQ.       Korean television shows were on the big screen TV by the service bar in the restaurant and I really get a kick out of Korean TV shows!  Koreans have a great sense of humor and most Korean TV shows usually have a funny dramatic twist.  An interesting Korean food show was on the TV when I first sat down.  Then the comedy started!       Late afternoons in restaurants are almost always very casual and the staff doesn't mind customers joining in on the fun.  Even if the fun is trying to keep a straight face while watching something hilariously funny on a Korean TV show, while waiting on a to-go order!      I highly recommend the authentic Korean food at the Elephant BBQ!  The dining room is very clean and they have large tables for big parties.  Most important of all, the Elephant BBQ offers great Korean BBQ that is cooked at the table!  Yum!  ...  Shawna
